The seventh lecture in the series of '9B Talks' realized within the 9th International İstanbul Biennial will take place on the 11 th of May, Wednesday at İstanbul Bilgi University with the participation of 2006 Sydney Biennial curator Charles Merewether.

The talk, in which Charles Merewether will be talking about contemporary art and the links between international biennials, will start at 18:30 pm in BS1 at İstanbul Bilgi University's Dolapdere campus. The '9B Talks -VII', in which Merewether will also be talking about 2006 Sydney Biennial, will be free of charge.

Dr Charles Merewether is Artistic Director and Curator of the Biennale of Sydney 2006. He is also Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Cross Cultural Research, Australian National University. An art historian, he was Collections Curator at the Getty Center in Los Angeles between 1994-2004.

Dr Merewether has taught at the University of Sydney, Australia; Universidad Autonoma, Barcelona ; Universidad Iberoamericana, Mexico City; and University of Southern California. He was a Research Fellow at Yale University and, in 2003, Fellow at the Humanities Research Centre, Australian National University and Research Fellow in Japan He has
published widely on the subject of modernism and its formation outside the Center as well as issues on the the archival, monuments and notions of the document and trace. His most recent book is 'Conditions of Uncertainty'.

He is currently writing a book on the cultural history of looting, preparing a publication on contemporary art in China and an exhibition on postwar Japanese art. He is Commissioning Editor for Timezone8 Books, Associate Editor of Grand St and on the Editorial Board of Yishu and Art AsiaPacific.
