The children of Başak add colour to the city!
September 10-October 2, 2005

Başak Art and Culture Foundation is organising a project with children. Its aim is to get children involved with art, while also creating something lasting. The project will take place in Kayışdağ on an empty piece of land opposite the office of the Başak Art and Culture Foundation, but children from different neighbourhoods, namely Merdivenköy and Fikirtepe will also take part. The children will create a space, with the collaboration of artists and they will build a barracks, a labyrinth, a ramp, a seating area and sculptural structures using metal, paper, paint and varnish. The outcome of these activities will be shaped interactively, by the children’s ideas. This study aims at creating a bond, a feeling of belonging and urban awareness between the children of poor neighbourhoods and the city. It also aims to form playgrounds and art workshops; hoping that it will set an example for similar projects in poor neighbourhoods.  Children aged 7 -14 will take part in the project. With the participation of 20-30 children every day, a total of 300 children will take part in the project by the time project is finished. The results of the project can be visited until the end of October.
