Seminar at the 9th International İstanbul Biennial

Dates of the workshop: September 17-18, 2005

A joint conference on the theme of "Artistic Research", the 2-day seminar is organized to be a creative forum where the participating institutions and their doctorates present their views and practices on the topic. The task is to come together and talk intensively about the theme of artistic research for two focused days, listening to one another, comparing each others approaches and strategies, discussing the content, possibilities, demands, challenges and difficulties of this rather young field of Academic study.

The main section of the seminar consists of presentations done by the doctoral students following the institutional presentations done by Mika Hannula (Gothenburg), Jan Kaila (Helsinki), Pelin Tan (İstanbul), Henk Slager (Utrecht). The participating students and their presentation topics are as follows: Irene Kopelman, Utrecht: "Experimental history and its possible application in contemporary art"; Staffan Schmidt and Mike Bode, Gothenburg: "Spatial expectations"; Denise Ziegler, Helsinki: "; Gülname Ozdemir, İstanbul: "the possibilities of crafts in design"; Gijs Frieling, Utrecth: "Kingdom"; Bryndis Snaebjörnsdottir, Gothenburg: "Animal City: Reflections on Wilderness"; Simo Alitalo, Helsinki: "What does one know through hearing: some thoughts about acoustemology of sound art".
