Hyunjin Kim is an independent curator, writer and a member of the collective, “Friendly Enemies”, working and living in Seoul, South Korea. She studied Art Studies (B.F.A / M.A) at Hongik University, Seoul and participated in Critical Studies 2003-2004 of Malmö Art Academy & Rooseum Center of Contemporary Art, Malmö, Sweden.
Kim's curatorial experience began with LOOP, one of the artist-run spaces in Seoul, working as a curator during its first founding year, 1999. Later, she worked for PICAF 2000 (Pusan International Contemporary Art Festival curated by Youngchul Lee, Hou Hanru, and Rosa Martinez). During her assistant curatorship at the Artsonje Center, Seoul from 2001 to 2004, she coordinated many exhibitions and publications and also co-curated BLINK (Artsonje Center, 2002) and Yangguang-Chanran (BizArt Center, Shanghai, 2004). She was recently invited to do her research and a project at Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven, NL from April, 2005.
Since 2002, Hyunjin Kim has made independent projects with young artists; Reality Bites01 (LOOP, Seoul, 2002), “Now on TV” of +SYSTEM (short videos from the World, BizArt Center, Shanghai, 2003), Where is My Friend's Home? (Short video program, Test Site in Rooseum, Malmö, 2003), Manyfacture (Co-organized by Critical Studies03-04, Living Art Museum, Reykjavik, Iceland), Thick-Skinned (Co-organized with Jewyo Rhii, Test Site in Rooseum, Malmö, 2004), D-Free Zone (co-curated with Sunny Jang, Site 2, Gwangju Biennial 2004, Korea), Steaming away from the Places (Sangmyung Univ, Seoul, 2004), etc..
Hyunjin Kim contributes writings and reviews to some catalogues and Korean art journals such as Wolgan Misul and ArtinCulture and other magazines. She is now working on the publication of the art magazine by Freindly Enemies, “ Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone .”
